Making Consistent Fitness Progress

Back in college I had a friend who had body dysmorphia. He had a constant obsession with losing more and more fat. Not only did he want every striation on his abs to be visible, he wanted the veins to stand out in bold relief as well.

And at the same time, he wanted to gain a bunch of muscle too. Because as soon as he put on a jacket, or even a t-shirt, you couldnt tell he worked out at all.

I knew that he also wanted to become a fast runner. Probably to run away from his problems. Or steal stuff.

And by the way, he didnt just want his limbs to look shapely with muscles. He wanted all those muscles to look proportionately large. If he felt his muscles were getting too large, he worried about the size of his back and even his arms. If his chest looked rather small, he worried that his other parts of the body, like his forearms, were getting too big. I made fun of him a lot.

I have known this person for a couple of years, and all that I can say is that, hes one peculiar guy whod try just about any available fitness workout. Although he had tried most of what he could do, he never gained the results he wanted to achieve. Unlike me.

I guess he needed to choose one.

Want to be a better runner? Alright " practice your running and dont worry if your arms shrink a bit. Want biceps that bust out of your sleeves? Okay " but you might want to ease up on the jogging a bit and not worry if your lung capacity goes down a microcosm while you focus on building muscle.

Now heres the kicker: While you want to FOCUS on just one fitness goalthat doesnt mean you cant ACCOMPLISH several.

The most common goal among all is to drop the extra 20 pounds off ones body.

With this circumstance, losing body fat should be at the top priority. A fat-loss routine, by then, should involve strength training. This exercise should be able to increase ones metabolism. Another thing that this could do is help tone the arms, legs, and even the midsection. One could even become as toned as me, Rick Steel.

Always remember that obsession toward several fitness goals is not advisable. If that happens, then your efforts are spread over a wide range of activities. Unfortunately, with this, you will never be able to accomplish your goals. Then you'll never be as awesome as Rick Steel.

If you want to prevent hypertension, then I suggest that you take action now and start making your lifestyle more active. You dont have to force yourself by immediately starting strenuous physical work without conditioning your body. All you need to do is to starting moving your body and do physical activities in moderation.

Exercise always brings good things to your body. With exercise, you are able to improve your bodys overall circulation. Exercise also strengthens your lungs and heart muscles. During exercise, you require more oxygen for your muscles therefore your lung muscles are doing extra work. Your heart muscles are also pumping more blood to be distributed in your system. Exercise also burns off unwanted fat.

Fatty foods are truly delicious but they can be harmful to our bodies. Its not that fat contains poison, but excessive fat will cause you no good. Eating large amounts of fatty foods for a long period of time will result to hypertension because of its deposition in your arterial walls. The arteries do not have a big passageway for blood and when fat deposits in its walls, the passageway for blood is narrowed. The narrowing is the cause of increase pressure from within the walls.

Aside from fatty foods, foods that are rich in sodium are also known to have caused hypertension. Limit your sodium intake by lowering your consumption of chips and avoid eating in fast food chains. Potato chips are very rich in sodium, same as foods offered in fast food restaurants. Therefore, in order to avoid having a high blood pressure, you should limit and control yourself from eating these types of foods.

For you to avoid developing hypertension, it is really necessary to make changes in your lifestyle. If you are used to doing it, a sudden lifestyle change is really difficult to achieve; however, all you need is motivation and determination to be healthy. The long term management for hypertension includes maintenance drugs which may be another cause of expenses for you.

So the first thing you need to do before asking which are the best to worst skin care products is to establish which are SAFE skin care products.

3 Posture Improving Neck and Shoulder Exercises

Poor posture really isn't something that gets talked about much, what with all the other health related concerns out there these days, but as innocent as it may seem on the surface, poor posture can seriously hamper your height, and could cause back problems in particular later in life.

The good news is that poor posture is rather easily remedied with a number of different posture exercises to help strengthen your muscles and increase your flexibility and height. Some of these exercises, specifically ones that target your shoulders and neck are detailed below.

1) Shoulder Release - Sit on a chair with your back straight, and your feet flat on the floor. Your arms should be hanging by your sides, palms facing towards your body. Now inhale deeply, and as you do so, raise your shoulders up to the level of your ears. Hold this position, then exhale and release your shoulders back to their normal position.

Using this stretching exercise is great for targeting your shoulders and back, and you should feel the results, as your back and shoulders some of their tension and feel looser and more flexible. Perform this posture exercise at least a few times during each sitting.

2) Turkey Stretch - Taking up the same position as the last routine, keep your head held high, and this time hold a hand beneath your chin to steady your head and make sure it doesn't waver while performing this. Take a deep breath, keeping your hand pressed against your chin as your head rises up. Do this a few times to really stretch out that spinal cord.

3) Turkey Stretch and Turn - This one is similar to the last, with some slight variations. You should be in a similar sitting posture. This time you want your chin tucked down to your neck. Inhale deeply in this position, and as you exhale, turn your neck to the right, while keeping your shoulders as still as possible.

Maintain this position until your next deep breath, then as you exhale, return your head slowly back to a forward position. Do this routine again, this time tilting your neck to the left. Do this 3 more times for each side.

These relaxing posture exercises are great for releasing tension and stress in your neck and shoulders, as well as having a great effect on your spine as well. Make it a habit of performing these stretches anytime you're sitting down, and you should soon see the benefits.

Dangerous Cosmetics And Teenage Girls Don't Mix.

You might be unaware that there are dangerous ingredients in many big brand name cosmetics, and a new study is showing that this might be affecting teenage girls.

Unfortunately the cosmetics that so many of us use are loaded with ingredients that we really ought not be putting on our faces. For example a recent study of big brand name lipsticks showed that over 50% of the lipsticks tested contained lead.

Isn't lead really dangerous? Yes it is and it shouldn't be in our lipsticks, but the FDA doesn't regulate it so it's there. And it's the same with skin care products and anti aging products and personal and body care and beauty products too.

And when we use these products the ingredients soak in don't they? And so they go straight into our bloodstream. When you put on that blush or rouge some of it goes into our blood.

That's because our skin is porous and what we put onto it soaks in and ends up in our bodies rather than just on our skin. Moisturizers, for example, are rubbed in a disappear. Where do they go but into our system? Ok if they are harmless, but what if they're not?

And now a recent study has cast doubt on whether it's safe for our teenage girls to use some cosmetics. I'll quote from the website of the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics which summarizes the results clearly.

"Laboratory tests reveal adolescent girls across America are contaminated with chemicals commonly used in cosmetics and body care products."

That's scary. It gets worse and makes worrying reading for any parent of a teen who uses cosmetics regularly, and who doesn't? Most in fact use more than the average woman.

The Environmental Working Group found chemicals from 4 different families of chemicals (phthalates, parabens, triclosan and musks) in the urine of girls between the ages of 14 and 20 who were tested in the study.

Some of these were found in the body of every single girls tested in the study.

Now of course a teenage girl is growing fast and dealing with hormonal changes and they don't need to be adding toxic chemicals to their bodies.

The chemicals tested for are considered to be hormone altering chemicals, and so it raises some questions about the implications of teenage girls using cosmetics and skin care products and also possibly acne treatments where there is a good chance they could be loading their systems with these chemicals.

No one knows what the implications are but it's an area of reproductive health that we shouldn't be playing with.

There seem to be risks to our girls but no one really knows the possible consequences.

It's a matter of serious concern for anyone. But there are solutions. There are very good companies that have dedicated themselves to making natural cosmetics and natural skin care products that don't contain dangerous chemicals. They work extremely well and don't expose our daughters to the risks inherent in mainstream cosmetics.

Patient Charting for New Medical Spa Estheticians

Estheticians coming from the traditional day spa industry into the medical spa environment have to learn and understand an entirely new way of documenting information as a 'client' transforms into a 'patient'.

New Medical Aestheticians who in the past only needed to be able to simply stamp a time and date on treatment forms with occasional side notes, are now expected to correctly chart anything that happens during every patient interaction. In addition to patient charting comes new medical treatment consent forms, HIPPA Forms, photography consent forms, anatomical charting forms, and others.

Medical Estheticians who have contact with a patient as any part of their treatment, should be charting everything from follow-up phone calls, to letters mailed, to topical treatments used and the patient's response, to laser settings and the patient's response, patch tests, follow up appointments, and patient's tolerances to therapies.

As a new medical aesthetician, your day spa 'client' files have now been transformed into a legal medical records which could need to stand up in a court of law. Some new medical aestheticians I have spoken with have not yet learned to correctly chart and feel they should not be required to.
