What, really, is Aromatherapy? In the United States, common use of the term 'Aromatherapy' is a bit misleading. The practice has been given a 'touchy-feely', 'soft-science' status to the general public through mainstream media. In much of the rest of the world, however, the therapeutic use of aromatic essential oils has a more elevated, scientifically-backed status. In France, for example, one can only purchase essential oils through a licensed Aromatherapist; this is due to the well-known, powerful interaction of essential oils and the human physiology.

The word 'aromatherapie' was first used in 1937 by the French cosmetic scientist Rene Maurice Gattefosse after accidentally discovering Lavender oil's healing effects on burns he sustained in his lab. He was so impressed by the oils medicinal actions, he wrote a book it that began the modern aroma-'therapy' revolution. Medicinal use of essential oils is widely accepted in France today, where one can receive a prescription for a blend from their doctor, and have it filled as we do with pharmaceuticals here. The inhalation of essential oils to make one 'feel good' - is truely just one aspect of the practice; Aromatherapy includes the entire branch of medicine using volatile (easily evaporated) aromatic compounds naturally occurring in plants. Some consider the most important actions of essential oils to not even be associated with the sense of smell. Beyond acting on through the olfactory senses, essential oils have been shown to have effects ranging from broad spectrum anti-microbials and anti-virals to inflammation reducers and even tissue regenerative properties.

Essential oils effects on the nervous system an psyche through the olfactory sense is not to be discounted, however. Studies have shown repeatable results in essential oils' ability to lift the spirits and sharpen the attention. The 'aromatic' effect of essential oils is a result of the intimate wiring of the smell sense with certain control systems of the brain. The olfactory region of the brain is closely associated with the limbic region - that being the center of emotions, memory, sex drive and intuition. The limbic system is also connected to parts of the brain that control heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure and hormone levels. The olfactory region also connects to the hypothalamus, which controls the entire hormonal system by influencing the pituitary. This gives us a good ideas as to why essential oils can have an 'aromatherapeutic' effect - human studies have shown the inhalation of essential oils can be calming, stimulating, uplifting, relaxing, and/or clarifying, depending on the oil being inhaled.

Though we shouldn't get distracted by the wonderful possibilities of aromas! The physiologic effects of essential oils are far more extensive than if used through the smell sense alone. Medical aromatherapy includes topical application, oral ingestion and natural suppository use of aromatic oils as well. Due to their molecular shapes and sizes, essential oils are remarkably compatible with human physiology. They are easily absorbed and well tolerated, for the most part, in small amounts. Essential oils are not cure-alls however, or placebo-effect-inducing nice smells - they are potent plant medicines, each with significantly different actions. Oregano oil is one of the most broad spectrum antimicrobials known; at the same time, it takes knowledge and skill to employ it properly as it is a strong skin irritant. Melissa oil has been hailed as a cure for Herpes Simplex virus infections by German researchers. Ginger oil has brought relief to sufferer's of motion sickness, rheumatoid arthritis and intestinal parasites - but not to those with the Herpes virus. The list goes on; the take-home message is that oils CAN be effective if used properly, and improper use can not only be ineffective but even dangerous. That doesn't mean essential oils are something to be afraid of - they deserve the respect given to any powerful medicine. Consult a qualified professional for ANY serious condition, and consider using essential oils if and when appropriate.

As the acceptance of healing with natural means continues to grow in the US, the concept of aromatherapy for many individuals will expand to include these important and exciting facets. More certified practitioners will be available to utilize essential oils to their true potential, and more 'end users' will aquire the knowledge to heal themselves with these incredible gifts from nature. Reasons for a Zimmer Durom Cup Recall

Everyone involved in Zimmer Durom Cup hip implant surgeries in the United States, from company stockholders to implant patients to physicians are still unhappy with the way Zimmer Holdings, Inc. handled its American sales. Although many of these people were demanding a product recall after the device failed in a large number of patients, Zimmer has been clinging to the previous reputation established by successful surgeries in Europe instead of being quick to act on the problems that began to crop up in the U.S.

It was January, 2008 when Zimmer first realized that there were problems with the implants. However, they didn't announce the information to the public and suspend the sales of the device until July. Because the implants had worked so successfully in Europe, they found it hard to believe that they could be the cause of the problems in the U.S. Rather than take them off the market while they investigated possible causes, they chose to keep them there until they had more information about what was causing patients to need revisions so quickly.

Zimmer employees did a detailed study of the cases of 3,100 patients who had been given a Durom Cup implant. Their findings indicated that there was no problem with the technology used to build the implants. Instead they concluded that the problem lay in the fact that the surgeons who had performed the procedure were still using older implant methods that had worked with the devices that had preceded the cup. With the Durom Cup, however, surgeons needed to learn more precise methods prior to ever attempting to do an implant. Without this training, they were unable to perform successful surgeries.

Since there was no evidence found saying that the implant device itself was to blame for the problems patients were having, no recall was ever issued. This leaves the way clear for them to put the implant back on the market once efficient methods of training are developed for doctors. Zimmer needed to develop a better way of teaching physicians the very precise skills required to do the hip replacement using the Durom Cup successfully.

No program was set up by Zimmer to follow a patient's progress once the implant was in place. People who demanded a product recall have cited this as a reason for their demands. However, most people feel that it isn't the manufacturer's place to have to police the usage of their products forever. Even so, there is another school of thought that believes that the manufacturer needs to take a more active follow-up role.

Physicians have left no doubt in anyone's mind that they consider the whole problem to be related to defects within the Durom Cup itself. In the defense of the doctors' point of view, Zimmer does still market a knee replacement device in the U.S. even though Austrian doctors quit using it a number of years ago, because it failed in 40% of the patients it was used to help. These blemishes on Zimmer's reputation have left doctors somewhat skeptical about how well their products will work.

If you cook meat with all kinds of spices, meat consumption will do you no good because a lot of protein is being washed away during the cooking process! If you think that a high protein intake will indeed help you lose weight, dont forget that it is always the amount of protein that counts, not its source. Also remember that you will be able to get far more protein from natural foods such as seeds and nuts than meat can ever offer! You can't have the best curls possible without some kind of product. Everyone has different kinds of curls, so not all products are universally great. One might work for you but not another person.

Everyone's curls are different. You could have big curls or tiny spirals. Some curly hair is drier than others. You have to experiment if you want to find the best product for your hair. If one product doesn't work, find another one.

Start by shampooing your hair. Shampoo can be really drying, so try not to shampoo more than a few times a week. When you do shampoo, get a shampoo that will moisturize your curls. Your hair needs something that it can soak up. Leave it on for at least a minute or longer for extra moisturizing.

Make sure you condition your hair every time you wash it. This is an important step. Put more conditioner towards the ends that are older and dryer.

Conditioning is very important for curly, dry hair. Make sure you don't skip it. It's likely that the daily conditioning you do won't be enough, so you should supplement it with a deep condition once a month or every couple of weeks. Find something that is specially designed as a deep conditioning treatment that you leave on longer.

Now you need to style your freshly cleaned hair. Styling products will get your curls where you want them to be. You can use any kind of products, but it is best to start with a leave-in conditioner. This will allow your hair to stay moisturized throughout the entire day and keep your curls looking beautiful.

If you have any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Before your symptoms turn into a full blown heart attack, call your doctor even if you don't think you are in immediate danger. If you are having the severe signs, go to the hospital or call 911. It might save your life.
